Kurt Russell isnt marrying Goldie Hawn: They trot that out every 4 or 5 years
A couple of weeks ago, Goldie Hawn was spotted out with a ring on her left ring finger. It looked like an engagement ring, and The Daily Mail ran a story claiming that Goldie and her partner of over 30 years, Kurt Russell, were finally tying the knot this New Year’s. It sounded possible to me. It’s the end of the year, there are tax benefits, and these two are 64 and 70 (I can’t believe Goldie is 70!), they may want the legal protections that come with marriage. I considered covering that story, but then I found other photos of Goldie earlier this year wearing a different engagement-type ring on her finger. It would be romantic and sweet if Goldie and Kurt got married, but it seemed like the press was jumping to conclusions due to ring watch. It turns out that they were. In a new interview promoting Hateful Eight, Kurt revealed that he’s not engaged to Goldie. It doesn’t sound like they’re going anywhere, they’re just not engaged. After longtime partner Goldie Hawn was seen flashing a ring on that finger, the rumor mill came in strong. While promoting his new film The Hateful Eight, the actor sat down with Extra’s Tracey Edmonds to address the speculations.
“I was just talking to Goldie last night, I said, ‘I should really have fun things to say. I have none,’ ” Russell, 64, said. “They trot that one out every four or five years, now that we’re four hundred years old … No unfortunately, for those that need to hear yes, I do not have good news.”
Though Hawn and Russell have been together since 1983, they never officially tied the knot. In an interview with Porter magazine, Hawn explained her reasonings.
“A lasting relationship isn’t about marriage,” she said. “It’s about compatibility and communication. And you both need to want it to work. If one person does not want it to work, it isn’t going to work. Intention is the key.”
The couple raised three children together along with children from previous relationships, including Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson and Wyatt Russell.
Though the duo have been together for over thirty years, the love they share radiates a generous dose of nostalgia.
In fact, the actress, who recently celebrated her 70th birthday, had us all reminiscing about the past when she posted adorable details of her and Russell’s date night in July.
“Kurt n I snuggled up and watched Overboard together. The first time we have seen it all the way thru since it came out Now that’s Romance,” Hawn wrote on Twitter.
I never saw that tweet from Goldie this summer about watching Overboard with Kurt for the first time! Somehow that film made kidnapping seem romantic. I must have seen it a dozen times, it used to air all the time on HBO when I was in high school. I thought that’s how Goldie and Kurt met, but Overboard came out in 1987 and they’ve been together since 1983 so I never did the math. It turns out that they really met in 1968, on the set of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, but Goldie was 21 at the time and Kurt was 16 so nothing happened. She admits that she “thought he was adorable ” but that he was too young for her. These two didn’t hook up until 1983’s Swing Shift, when Goldie was in her late 30s and their age difference wasn’t as glaring. I hope that Goldie and Kurt stay together forever, they’re the rare Hollywood couple that just seems meant for each other.
