Chelseas poor run of form affected my personal life Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz admits he struggled to cope with Chelsea’s recent run of poor results, revealing it had a negative impact on his personal life.

Chelsea have made a good start to March, winning three successive matches in all competitions to relieve the pressure on head coach Graham Potter.

But before that the club were in a bit of a crisis following just one win in 11 matches. The fans began to turn on Potter with the 47-year-old even being sent shocking email messages wishing for him to die.

Havertz’s displays suffered a dip during this period too, scoring just once in 12 appearances and the Germany international found it hard to deal with.

He said: “Football is our life. If you lose a game, of course you don’t have an easy life as well. I think everyone at home, especially my girlfriend, has had some tough weeks as well in the last weeks and months. I think she is happy now again and so am I.

“For you guys, it is the same – if you have a bad day at work… you… I won’t say the word now but you don’t feel good. Football is a game where we have a lot of pressure on our shoulders.

“We want to make the fans happy and if you don’t make them happy then you don’t have a good time. Winning is always the best, we won again so we can enjoy some days.”

Havertz now looks back to his best having scored in the 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund and a sublime lobbed volley to help beat Leicester 3-1 on Saturday.

Chelsea have renewed hope in two competitions. Their victory over Borussia Dortmund means they are in the draw for the Champions League quarter finals on Friday while they have closed the gap to teams above them in the Premier League and the race for the European qualifying positions.

Havertz feels there are signs the team is starting to gel following the arrival of a number of new signings in the last two windows and players coming back from injury.

He added: “We knew it was going to take some time to adapt for everyone. So maybe, you could see that we are still not finished. It will always take time to develop. We can develop a lot but we showed another good performance (at Leicester) and we can be happy.

“Of course, to win three games in a row is important for us because we had a tough time before that. We knew we would bounce back. We still have a game to play (at home to Everton) before the (international break for the) national team. We have to keep our focus high and win the next game as well.”
